Ultrasound, also called ultrasonography or ecosonography, is a non-invasive diagnostic procedure that uses ultrasound to create two-dimensional or three-dimensional images of the explored area once processed. No radiation is used unlike conventional radiology based on X-ray emission.

What does an ultrasound consist of?

By means of an ultrasound wave emitter that is applied to the explored area, high-frequency waves are applied, recovering the echo they produce, being transformed into images by computer processing them.

It is a routinely used procedure in consultation and is applicable to different areas of the body (muscular, abdominal, breast, transrectal, vaginal, thyroid,…).
