What is presbyopia?

Presbyopia, more commonly known as eyestrain, is an eye disease that affects most people from 40-50 years of age.

Its main symptoms appear due to a lack of accommodation of the structures of the eye. This produces difficulty in close focus making activities such as reading become more difficult, making it necessary to move the texts to a greater distance to be able to read them clearly. Symptoms are accentuated in low light conditions and at the end of the day.

The usual treatment is correction through glasses or contact lenses.

What procedure is used in presbyopia surgery with a multifocal lens?

As a more recent alternative to the classic glasses or contact lenses, there are different eye surgery techniques that use intraocular lenses to correct the symptoms of tired eyesight.

If the intraocular lens used is multifocal, it allows correcting refractive errors for near and far vision.

If the lens used is intraocular, it is trifocal, more recently used in these surgeries, in addition to acting on near and far vision, they improve the so-called intermediate vision. Additionally, they offer better results by acting better in different lighting conditions and reduce the appearance of so-called night halos.
